CATTOLICA

Between the Romagna and Marche regions where the hills gently slope down to meet the sea, you will find the town of Cattolica. This seaside resort, which has a one hundred metre wide stretch of extraordinarily clear fine sand, has since the “eight hundreds” been known as "the Queen of the Adriatic", due to its geographical position set in a large natural inlet sheltered from strong winds and tides.

Local culture has forever been tied to the sea and its tradition of hospitality dating back to ancient taverns from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period has been maintained to present day, welcoming sailors and wayfarers alike. Cattolica is a small municipality blessed with well-organized accommodation and leisure facilities, fun, sport and culture; shops, luxuriously paved avenues filled with squares, museums and beautiful walks along the sea front.

The Regina theatre, the only one built in post-war period Italy, offers an inviting season of prose and lyrical performances.   The symbolic dancing fountains and the mermaids of Piazza Primo Maggio, has forever been a meeting place, where in the summer evenings shows and events take place. In spring the blossoming gardens in Piazza Roosevelt, in front of the Neo Renaissance styled Council building becomes the stage for the traditional “Festival of Flowers”.

The harbour, already important for fishing, has now become a key feature in leisure and tourism, with the newly constructed internal harbour which has berths for a number of yachts, and an external harbour which has 200 places for luxury boats. From here you can also begin your stroll, a walk which can take you as far as the opposite side of town.

Cattolica is in close proximity to theme parks and numerous important historical sites, as well as the artistic and cultural inland locations of the Romagna and Marche regions. Cattolica is ideally situated for the departure of excursions to medieval environs, castles rich with culture, history and tradition. Cattolica can be reached by taking the A14 motorway, exiting at the Cattolica tollgate or by using the main national road (SS) 16 Adriatic; directly by airplane landing at the Federico Fellini airport, Rimini or by train stopping at Cattolica station.
